The Big Battlefield Bike Ride 2017 (May 2017)

The Abatec team would DSC_0248like to send luck and support to Stuart Rawlings from Helm Construction who will be doing The Big Battlefield Bike Ride 2017 in September.

Around 200 fundraisers will take part in the event, being held in from 10-16th September 2017,which will involve cycling from Lille, France, passing through Waterloo and then will follow the 1944 route of the Allied Forces through the Low Countries towards the Arnhem. Once in Arnhem, the participants will witness the annual commemoration of the parachute jump which has come to epitomise this period of military history.

Business Leader Awards 2016 (September 2016)

img-20160922-wa0001As previous winners and proud sponsors of the Employer of the Year award at this year’s Business Leader Awards, Abatec attended the prestigious ceremony on Thursday 22nd September at The Bristol Hotel. There were over 300 business men and women from the South West in attendance with Clive Coleman hosting the evening’s events.

With an array of categories, 12 judges (including Abatec managing director Phil Davies) assessed a record number of entries and had the difficult task of selecting the finalists.

Special recognition to Almeda Facilities who collected the prestigious Employer of the Year award this year; congratulations to all winners and nominee’s and a big thank you to Business Leader for hosting another successful event.

Abatec recruits Sharon Cole to join Construction Trades division (June 2016)

ShazDuring a period of expansion, we delighted to welcome Sharon Cole to the Abatec team. Sharon will work as a Team Leader within the Construction Trades team, alongside Jon Pope, the existing Recruitment Manager. The team are responsible for the supply of freelance and construction trades personnel and having been successfully placing staff with a variety of clients over many years.

Sharon, who joins Abatec from recruitment agency Reed, comments: “I was introduced to Abatec through a friend and was looking to join a company that were progressive and have a massive scope for growth. Abatec offered me the opportunity to become part of an amazing business and the prospects in front of me are endless. I am excited to see what the future brings.”

Changes to Travel & Subsistence Expenses (April 2016)

The changes

Travel and subsistence relief for contractors is due to be restricted according to the Budget 2015.

This means that tax relief for work-to-home travel expenses will no longer be available to umbrella or limited company workers where there is Supervision, Direction or Control of a person.

Some background

On 16th April 2014, HMRC published a document called “Employment intermediaries: temporary workers – relief for travel and subsistence expenses”. This document outlined the coalition Government’s plans to clampdown on the misuse of travel and subsistence rules.

What does this mean to contractors of umbrella companies and limited companies?

As of 6th April 2016, any worker employed through an umbrella company or a limited company director working inside IR35 can no longer claim for travel and subsistence costs as expenses and incur tax relief on these costs.

These restrictions will only be in place for workers who are under the Supervision, Direction and Control of their end-client, or are essentially working inside IR35.

Contractors working outside of IR35 will not be affected by the proposed changes. However, limited company directors, which are already deemed ‘caught’ by IR35, will not be able to claim tax relief on their expenses in the same way as they have previously done.

What happens now?

We will be inviting experts to hold briefings on the enforced changes. We strongly recommend you take advantage of this free briefing.

PGD and RBWe are pleased to announce that Abatec has been awarded the Business Leader 2015 “Employer of the Year” award

After being informed that we were shortlisted September 2015, we were delighted to pick up the Employer of the Year accolade at the ceremony, which was hosted by Giles Brandreth at Cadbury House Hotel and attended by more than 350 of the top business people in the South West.
